AWAKENING
Created to embrace the transformative power of self love and awareness, this stunning kimono combines two magical pieces of art: a lush landscape of the waterfalls at Tivoli, Italy, painted by artist Louis Ducros in 1790, and an antique engraving depicting Lady Liberty created by E. Savage in 1796. We married them together to produce a rich, beautiful vision of a woman confidently stepping into her own power. The painterly palette is feminine, romantic, and strong.

I DREAM IN FLOWERS
A riotous, painterly celebration of art and the natural world, this exquisite duster is all at once romantic, ethereal, and so, so cool. Inspired by the romance of European flower markets, we created this kimono using a masterful oil painting from the early 1600’s by artist Jan Brueghel, and an ink drawing of bumblebees we found in a Victorian insect encyclopedia. It has the look of a treasured vintage piece that will never go out of style. Dress it up or down — either way, expect compliments :)
A percentage of profits from every I Dream In Flowers kimono sold is donated to bee conservation and protection in North America.

MIDNIGHT
The piece that started it all — created to remind ourselves to trust in our dreams again. To trust in possibility. In wonder. In stardust.
The artwork on this stunning kimono was custom painted by talented local artist Kat Cearns, and based on doves from original antique Victorian prints. Images of doves are symbols of faith, hope, and peace — and they were believed by the Victorians to bring luck when worn on jewelry or embroidered on clothing. Each of our doves carry a flowing banner reading “In Stardust We Trust” — our kismet motto. The colour is Midnight -- an almost black with a deep-blue undertone that works beautifully with almost any outfit palette.
We let our dreams take wing with this one.

FRIENDSHIP LOVE & TRUTH CROPPED KIMONO CARDIGAN
It takes a bold heart to live your truth. To keep reminding yourself that love is the answer, even on your hard days! We created this eclectic, super cool kimono from an 1880s archival print, and adapted the utterly charming wood-grain lettering to build the trim. The result is one of our favourite pieces in the collection: beautiful and completely unique, with a lot of romance, and a touch of rock and roll. There are so many delightful images on this kimono, many of which are historic symbols of friendship, love, and truth! The beehive traditionally represents cooperation, and the bundle of sticks is a symbol of teamwork and solidarity. The clasped hands signify trust and fellowship, and the heart-in-hand represents charity and kindness.

CASTLES IN THE AIR
Based on a lush and magical painting from the 1600’s by artist Jan Brueghel titled “Imaginary Landscape,” this kimono is a true flight of fancy! Using Brueghel’s masterpiece, we layered in elements from French artist Hubert Robert, including the classical ruins and a girl swinging joyfully through the trees. To add even more richness, we trimmed the entire design in vintage painterly florals. The resulting piece is full of imagination and depth, just like a beautiful dream.

TREE OF LIFE
Over a year in the making, our captivating Tree of Life print was carefully adapted from an American archival lithograph from 1891. Worn and damaged, the print needed to be reconstructed, repaired, and reworked to restore its vibrant rich colours. The Tree of Life is a timeless symbol that can be found in almost every culture around the world — and represents connectedness, growth, hope, and harmony. Its “fruits” are the fruits of happiness — love, joy, and wonder among them. A dove, the symbol for peace, nests in the tree’s branches.
For every Tree of Life kimono sold, a tree is planter.

THE DREAMER
Created for the moon goddess in all of us, this piece is based on a stunning portrait of Georgiana Spencer, the Duchess of Devonshire, painted in 1781 by artist Maria Cosway. Spencer —who was the great-great-great-great aunt of the late Diana, Princess of Wales — was a well-known fashion icon, scandalous writer, and political activist in her day. She commissioned Maria Cosway to paint her as the Goddess of the Moon from the poem The Faerie Queen. The result was a luminous, magical depiction of feminine strength. Our kimono jacket features Cosway’s masterpiece on the back, and a swirling moonlit sky on the front. It’s trimmed in a custom-created celestial moon-and-stars pattern.

EARTH AND SKY
One of our favourite ways to pass the time on a warm summer afternoon is just to lie in the grass and look up at the clouds through the branches of the beautiful old trees that border our headquarters. Earth and Sky was created out of a deep appreciation for rare afternoons like these — full of wise, ancient trees, and wide open skies! Painted in the late 1800’s by British artist Charles Aston, the palette is a dreamy and meditative play of textures and colours from the natural world. We trimmed Aston’s magnificent tree with moths painted in the 1600’s by Dutch master Melchior d’Hondecoeter. The result is airy and ethereal, and oh-so easy to wear.
Kimono measurements: approximately length 36", width 43"w (across back, underarm to underarm).
THE ARTIST
We celebrate artists — the ones who break themselves open over and over so they can share their vision with the world. This dreamy, painterly kimono was created by layering works of art from the 1700s — including two painting studies by artist Thomas Gainsborough, and a floral painted wooden frame from the same era by an unknown artist. It’s a piece that feels at once modern and timeless, and utterly unique — just like you.

FRIENDSHIP, LOVE, AND TRUTH
When we created our original Friendship, Love, and Truth short kimono, we had no idea how popular it would be! Beloved by our Stargazer community, we had so many requests to make a longer version that we knew we had to try — and we’re obsessed with the results. Featuring a removable belt, you can wear this fantastic piece in so many creative ways. It takes a bold heart to live your truth. To keep reminding yourself that love is the answer, even on your hard days! We created this eclectic, super cool full-length kimono from an 1880s archival print, and adapted the utterly charming wood-grain lettering to build the trim. The result is one of our favourite pieces in the collection: beautiful and completely unique, with a lot of romance, and a touch of rock and roll.

HEARTWORK
Our tribute to the indomitable, heart-centered spirit of women in art!
This stunning piece features one of our very favourite paintings — artist Artemisia Gentileschi’s self-portrait — surrounded by lushly painted forest landscapes, birds, and butterflies. Gentileschi was an artistic genius from the 1600’s — outspoken and brilliant — who made a living as an artist during a time when few women did. In a letter to one of her wealthy patrons (who questioned her abilities) she famously wrote, “My illustrious lordship, I'll show you what a woman can do.” And she did. What a woman can do, after all, is nothing short of marvelous.

THE LOOKING GLASS
Step through the looking glass with our loving tribute to Alice in Wonderland, a whimsical celebration of storytelling, imagination, and of course — wonder. This super cool piece features rare flower and foliage photography from the late 1800s, and a captivating portrait of Alice Liddell (the girl who inspired Lewis Carroll to write Alice in Wonderland), when she grew up. The portrait was taken in 1872 by influential photographer Julia Margaret Cameron, who photographed Liddell many times during her life. The moon in our design comes from a historic photo taken by the Harvard Observatory, and the star trim (including the trim on Alice’s collar) comes from a fragment of wallpaper from the same era.

PEACE, WINE, & SUNSHINE
We have a deep appreciation for the simplest pleasures: the sun on our faces, a glass of wine shared with friends. This kimono is a simple pleasure too — created using a cool collage of botanical prints and lithographs from the late 1800’s, with just a delicate whisper of blush for the background. It’s trimmed on the placket and sleeves using a stunning heritage font that we reconstructed to spell out our grocery list of needs: peace, wine, and sunshine, baby!

WILD BEAUTY
Majesty, luxury, and good luck! Peacocks — symbols of strength, confidence, luck, and royalty — have been celebrated for their glorious and colourful plumage throughout history. This remarkable piece features several joyful, deliciously rich works from the 1600's by Dutch painter Melchior d'Hondecoeter in a lush palette of crimson, ochre, and cerulean blue. The whimsical trim is a peacock toile print we created using a reconstructed French textile fragment from the same era.

LOVE GROWS WILD
An enchanted garden of earthly delights! Our lush and verdant botanical print comes from the 12 Months of Flowers, a series of remarkably beautiful hand-colored etchings from the 1700's. The prints were commissioned by famed English gardener Robert Furber, and were published as a catalogue of flowers and seeds according to season. We chose the Spring engravings for their delightfully detailed blooms, and then layered the flowers together to create a wild and wonderful print that captures the exuberance of the garden. The charming bumblebee trim comes from a museum seed catalogue from the late 1800's. Brought all together by our design team, it's such a joyful and abundant design that goes with almost every color. Sometimes more is more — more flowers, more love, more everything!

TAKE MY HAND
A splendid and wholly original ode to friendship, this lighthearted design has quickly become one of our very favorites! We combined several pieces of art in the tradition of Victorian collage — including a remarkably detailed engraving of clasped hands and sun rays from 1626, a painted heart from a seventeenth-century color chart, and flowers, leaves, and hummingbirds from an 1800's lithograph. The banners on the front reads, in both English and French, “La vie n’est rien sans l’amitié — Life is nothing without friendship”. The trim combines more hand-colored 1800’s florals collaged together. The resulting print is joyful and fresh — and unlike anything we’ve made before.
FOLKLORE
A fairy tale you can wear -- Folklore is our celebration of the Arts & Crafts movement, and our nod to the beauty of “non-finito” (art that is a work-in-progress). The printed Bird of Peace comes from an original hand stitched work by fibre artist, Kim Donohoe, who used single-ply thread to capture every detail of plumage. The background panels come from unfinished works created in 1885 by British artist, William Morris, whose original pencil sketch lines can be seen where the designs remain incomplete. We left these in intentionally, to celebrate the profound beauty of the artistic process!
