Born from a land of extremes--the deserts of India's northwestern frontier--steel, bronze, sand, and fire combine to create bells with a range of tones that are primally mesmerizing.  Each bell is beaten into shape by hand, then baked under the sand in make-shift kilns.  This annealing gives each bell its unique tone and patina.  A network of artisans linked by a cooperative keeps this ancient skill alive.

This sweet owl sings its delightful song, creating a tone to enjoy inside or out.  Handmade by artisans in Gujerat, India.  Due to the handmade process, each piece completely unique.

MEET THE ARTISANS: Handcrafted by Janmamad Luhar in the Kutchchi desert region of western India. Janmamad employs an ancient technique of bell-making, passed on to him through generations. The bells are formed from sheets of recycled steel. They are beaten into shape by hand, then dipped in copper. Women make a dough that they pat around the bells; the bells are then buried under the hot desert sand in a kiln. The heat anneals the metals, welding them into bronze, giving each piece its unique patina. After firing, each bell is individually hand-tuned by Janmamad Luhar. This is what truly makes each piece utterly unique!
