An ancient Greek fabulist and storyteller, Æsop lived c. 620–564 BC, but his wonderful tales are just as relevant today as they were millennia ago. Here, eighty-two of his classic fables have been gathered, "Selected, Told Anew, and their History Traced" by Joseph Jacobs. Profusely and beautifully illustrated by Richard Heighway, this edition was originally published in 1894, and sports a sheaf of notes at the back, summing up the provenance of each fable.
