Osiris was the son of the sun (and creator) god of ancient Egypt, and a prominent god, himself. Nonetheless, he was betrayed and murdered by his brother, Set, who attempted to usurp his position. His trials were not to last, however, as his courageous wife, the goddess Isis, found a means of reviving him from death. By this means, Osiris became god of the afterlife, welcoming the newly deceased to his eternal kingdom. With Isis, Osiris was also the parent of Horus who, jointly with Ra, was the supreme god of ancient Egypt. Statue recreated after an ancient relic.
